Enteritis of Swine

چکیده
Necrotic enteritis has until recently been considered an infections disease of swine caused by the micro-organism Salmonella eholeraesuis. Lately, however, the relation of swine nutrition to the development of this disease has been given prominent attention. The results of investigations now in progress in different sections of the country may clarify the question of the cause of the disease. Necrotic enteritis has also been called necro, paratyphoid, caseous enteritis, and infectious necrotic enteritis. The term "necrotic enteritis" means an inflammation of the intestines (enteritis) characterized by dead cells or tissue (necrosis). Besides being a specific disease of swine, necrotic enteritis is also a condition associated with other diseases.

Are chlamydiae swine pathogens?
In recent years, there has been a renewed effort to study swine chlamydiae, both because there is an increased awareness of chlamydial diseases and because we now have improved methods of isolation. Six different strains of chlamydiae have been isolated from cases of enteritis, pneumonia, and conjunctivitis in nursing, nursery, and finishing pigs. These isolates are all of the C. trachomatis ty...

Clinical expression of porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) infection in swine may result in several distinct syndromes and diseases including post-weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS), porcine dermatitis and nephropathy syndrome (PDNS), reproductive failure, porcine respiratory disease complex, granulomatous enteritis, necrotizing lymphadenitis, and possibly exudative epidermitis. Association ...
متن کاملLawsonia Intracellularis: A Constant Challenge to Modern Swine Production
Lawsonia intracellularis (LI) is an obligate intracellular proteobacteria that causes porcine proliferative enteritis. The disease affects mainly piglets and has an important role in economic losses in the swine breeding chain, chiefly because it is usually hardly noticed swine herds. Being a disease with cosmopolitan distribution it triggers reduction in average daily gain of weight and feed c...

Differential diagnoses for diarrhea in weaned pigs include salmonellosis, swine dysentery, porcine proliferative enteropathy (PPE) caused by Lawsonia intracellularis, rotavirus and coronavirus enteritis, postweaning colibacillosis, trichuriasis, coccidiosis,1 and porcine colonic spirochetosis (PCS) caused by Brachyspira pilosicoli.2 Postweaning diarrhea may be associated with multiple concurren...
متن کاملDistribution of serotypes of Campylobacter jejuni and C. coli from Danish patients, poultry, cattle and swine.
The number of human cases of enteritis caused by Campylobacter jejuni and C. coli is increasing in Denmark and other European countries. No systemic typing has earlier been performed on Campylobacter isolates of Danish origin. The primary purpose of this study was to provide a serotype distribution of Campylobacter isolates from Danish patients and the major food production animals. In addition...
